What Living on a Hall With 60 Girls Has Taught Me

No one gets super excited to live on a hall with 60 plus other girls, have two roommates, and a community bathroom. However, the Liberty atmosphere has truly amazed me and blown me away with how great it is to live like that. With the amazing leadership I’ve been blessed with this year on my hall, our hall has seriously been so united from game night every Thursday and tea every Sunday afternoon to nerf gun wars and well-planned pranks.
With over 60 girls, sure, there’s lots of giggles and sometimes tears but there’s always someone there to celebrate a success, or provide comfort after a failure. I’ve gotten to meet some of the wisest, most supportive girls ever by being a part of dorm life and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Living on the best part of campus, the Hill, allows for the doors to be open (and not shut and lock like other parts of campus) which also allows people to stop in and say hi on their way past my room. This is probably one of my favorite aspects of dorm life. I love that a quick “what’s up” could either end seconds later if I’m busy or turn into an hour conversation about anything at all if I’m not doing anything.
Everyone supports each other but it’s all by choice. Whether it’s attending someone’s play-off intramural game or quizzing them for their upcoming exam, these girls have been so encouraging toward each other. With that being said, I think we have one of the happiest halls. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t hear compliments being given or words of motivation and encouragement. Laughter often fills the halls, sometimes past quiet hours, but it’s always welcomed and enjoyed when you realize that laughter is really the best of all medicines.
One downside, however, is that if one person gets the flu, you either avoid everyone at all costs and pop Airborne constantly or you get the flu, that’s just how it works. Sickness goes around FAST. This makes the months of November-January tough but thankfully winter break is conveniently located in the middle.
Pros or cons, I’m so thankful for the opportunity to live with the people I’ve lived with this year. I’m sad that in about two weeks we’ll all be going home and scattered in different directions next semester. I am still very excited for this coming year because I have accepted the position of Community Group Leader on my hall next year and I can’t wait to see what God plans to do with that. I wish all of the girls I’ve gotten to know so well, the best of luck in the future and I know God has big plans for the most artistic, wise, creative, supportive, encouraging, and compassionate girls I’ve ever met.

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other, and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12-14
